Welcome to the Thennes/Thinnes Family History Blog!!

Genealogy is my passion and love.  I grew up with my Grandma Hessie and heard the few stories of her life.  I remember her talking about the little log cabin where she would have to scrape the snow off my mother's bassinet after a good night's snow in the cold Michigan Mornings.  When I got a copy of a picture of my Grandma in front of that little log cabin, my heart skipped a beat.  It was no longer just a story I heard as a child, it was real.  Grandma talked about her two no good husbands, but in researching my Grandpa Fred I made a discovery I don't think my Grandma ever knew.  The man I had always heard harsh words about, I grew to have a great love for.

It all started with looking for Thennes's on Facebook, then finding Aunts and Cousins I never knew existed. There have been many surprises along the way, several moments of tears, and a few deep breaths. I continue to push forward in gathering records, documents and memories from those that knew my Thennes family so their story can be told. In the beginning, the Thennes Family I thought I knew, was only the impression my mother and grandmother left on me as well as the chip on my shoulder of "how dare to  you do that to Grandma."  But now I wonder if my own grandmother knew of the burden my grandfather carried on his shoulders during his life.  If she did, would her impression and actions changed against him? Did she really know his story?  What I thought would maybe help me understand the hardness of the Thennes family has instead open a vial of love I never thought I could ever have for them.

We all have our journeys and hardships, the Thennes Family has certainly had theirs.   I hope that with this blog I may inspire others to tell their story.  If you do not take the time to at least write a page of the past years event, you will never be able to tell your story from your perspective.  Also with this blog, I hope to connect with other Thennes Family Members. So whether it be to learn about the Thennes family or connect with others, one thing I am certain of.  My heart has changed to have a great love for this elusive side of my family.
